The French club Lille has announced that they have renewed the contract of their star player Jonathan David until June 2026.

David's new deal will see him earn a salary increase of 50% compared to his previous contract. The striker, who has been at Lille since 2018, has made over 100 appearances and scored over 40 goals for the club.

In a statement, Lille president Stéphane Zeghal said: "We are delighted to extend Jonathan's stay with us until 2026 and thank him for his commitment to Lille."

David's agent, Christian Pursu, added: "Jonathan is very happy to be staying at Lille for another five years. He feels like he has found a home in France and is excited about the opportunity to continue playing for such a great club."

Lille's new deal also includes a clause which allows them to terminate the contract if David fails to meet certain performance targets during the next three seasons.

The news comes after Lille struggled to find a suitable replacement for David in the summer transfer window, as they lost key players such as Kevin Volland and Moussa Dembélé to other clubs.

However, Lille manager Rudi Garcia remains confident that David can continue to lead the team to success.

"I am really proud of what Jonathan has achieved for Lille," Garcia said. "He is a true leader on and off the pitch and I believe he can continue to do so for many more years."
